Who knows? You can't pay too much mind to this sort of person, it's just a waste of time trying to decipher what they want. Right off the bat, the fact that this person suggests that Pale Moon gives you as much privacy and anonymity online as Tor Browser does tells you their advice is basically meaningless to most people. 🚩 |

Because totally using and old version of Firefox, is a great idea with its unique fingerprint and all that. Last I looked they removed a lot of the sandboxing, isolation code from Firefox and are fixated on XUL despite it's problems. Not to mention dumb shit like allowing users to by-pass invalid HSTS (which is counter to what the RFC allows for). |

He has some good points. Recommending users to use Tor or VPN while simultaneously recommending StartPage on PrivacyGuides' side is contradicting. Strong opinions like his "you should ignore PrivacyGuides" or opinions such as those above "fear-mongering conspiracy" and "don't pay attention to; their advice is meaningless" are not correct in my opinion. You should study up and evaluate claims on an individual basis not blindly trust what this project or that project has to say. Remember that each project and it's maintainers have biases. |

Negative, because we don't recommend using every single thing on our website simultaneously, or imply that using every single recommendation makes you more private than otherwise. That'd be absurd. That being said... I am liking Startpage less and less lately because of dumb issues like this, so we also could reconsider listing them 🤷♂️ |

It's a bad comparison, search engines and VPN/Tor are different categories and even if @jonaharagon says it's not implied, I would bet most people get that impression when visiting the website. "Oh, they recommend StartPage as a private search engine? Cool, I'll use it, has good results too. Oh, they also recommend Tor to make me close to anonymous? I will use that too." It's not using every single thing, it's 1 thing from each category. |
