so a consideration with some of the ETH 2.0 serialisation standards right now is that they are not as lightweight as they look from the outside @oskarth

The main discussion on the wire format is here: ethereum/consensus-specs#871.

SSZ is confirmed for consensus (within a client) but the wire format is still open for discussion.
